Software Engineering Manager, Ubuntu Gaming

We meet in person 2-4 times a year in interesting locations worldwide to align on strategy and execution.

As the Software Engineering Manager for Ubuntu Gaming, your mission is to make gaming on Ubuntu first-class. This involves improving compatibility, performance, security, device support, and content sharing, collaborating with open-source projects and partners to enhance the Linux gaming ecosystem.

Location: Remote in the Americas or EMEA region.

Responsibilities:
  1. Lead your team in optimizing and expanding the Ubuntu gaming experience, focusing on the Steam Snap.
  2. Manage project timelines, balancing feature improvements with deadlines.
  3. Collaborate with stakeholders to align your team's work with other teams and company objectives.
  4. Conduct code reviews focusing on quality, performance, and modern design principles.
  5. Collaborate with upstream projects like Proton and partners like Unity to enhance Ubuntu's gaming capabilities.
  6. Work closely with other teams to ensure a cohesive Ubuntu experience.
  7. Drive performance improvements across hardware.
  8. Engage with the open-source and gaming communities for feedback and collaboration.
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with upstream projects and partners.
  • Experience with the Linux graphics stack from user-space to kernel drivers.
  • Excellent software project management skills, including risk assessment and resource management.
  • Technical leadership combined with team management skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Robust planning skills for multi-cycle improvements.
  • Ability to travel twice a year for up to two weeks.
