As the Software Engineering Manager for Ubuntu Gaming, your mission is to elevate gaming on Ubuntu to a first-class experience. This involves enhancing compatibility, performance, security, device support, and content sharing, collaborating with open-source projects and partners to benefit the wider Linux gaming ecosystem.

Location

This role is remote, based in the Americas or EMEA region.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead your team in optimizing and expanding the Ubuntu gaming experience, focusing on the Steam Snap.
  2. Manage project timelines, balancing feature development with deadlines.
  3. Collaborate with stakeholders to align team efforts with broader company goals.
  4. Conduct code reviews emphasizing quality, performance, and modern design principles.
  5. Work with upstream projects like Proton and partners such as Unity to improve Ubuntu's gaming capabilities.
  6. Coordinate with other teams to ensure a cohesive Ubuntu experience.
  7. Drive hardware performance improvements.
  8. Engage with the open source and gaming communities for feedback and collaboration.
Candidate Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
  • Proven collaboration with upstream projects and partners.
  • Experience with Linux graphics stack from user-space to kernel drivers.
  • Strong project management skills, including risk assessment and resource allocation.
  • Technical leadership combined with team management abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Robust planning skills for multi-cycle improvements.
  • Ability to travel twice a year for company events.
