Job summary

Google is seeking a Software Engineering Manager in Seattle to lead multiple teams in building scalable infrastructure and advanced software across domains such as information retrieval, AI, and distributed computing. You will mentor engineers, shape product strategy, and drive large-scale projects across sites worldwide.

You will manage priorities, coach performance, and align roadmaps with company goals while ensuring delivery of high-quality software and systems across locations.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software development with leadership roles.
• 3+ years of experience in technical leadership; 2+ years in people management or team leadership.
• Experience with large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, networks, compute/storage/hardware architecture.

Responsibilities

• Set and communicate team priorities aligned to broader organizational goals.
• Set clear expectations with individuals based on level and role; provide performance feedback and coaching.
• Develop mid-term technical goals and roadmaps for multiple teams and adapt to future infrastructure needs.
• Design, guide and vet systems designs and write production-grade code to solve complex problems.
• Review code from other engineers and enforce best practices and high-quality software.

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development.
• 3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
• 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
• Experience in Google technologies and platforms, AI/ML.
• Passion for enterprise products and interest in growing Cloud offerings in the space

Responsibilities:

• Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization’s goals. Align strategy, processes, and decision‑making across teams.
• Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role and aligned to the broader organization’s goals. Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development and provide feedback and coaching.
• Develop the mid‑term technical goal and roadmap within the scope of your (often multiple) team(s). Evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs.
• Design, guide and vet systems designs within the scope of the broader area, and write product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems.
• Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
