Software Engineering Manager - Container and Virtualisation Infrastructure

About the Role

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in enterprise cloud, data science, AI, engineering, and IoT. We are seeking an engineering manager with experience in microservice architectures, Linux kernel, virtualisation, storage, and networking to lead our team working on next-generation cloud infrastructure involving KVM, Ceph, and SDN technologies.

Responsibilities

1. Lead a remote engineering team
2. Develop talent through coaching and mentoring
3. Coordinate with other teams and stakeholders
4. Promote modern software development practices
5. Participate in code and architecture reviews
6. Engage with the open source community and partners
7. Travel 4-6 weeks annually for internal and external events

Requirements

• Strong understanding of Linux cloud technologies including networking, storage, containers, and K8s
• Proven track record in developing and growing engineering teams
• Focus on successful, high-quality software delivery
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, STEM, or equivalent
• Excellent technical communication skills
• Experience programming in C and/or Go
