Software Engineering Manager - Container and Virtualisation Infrastructure

Our mission is to build a next-generation private cloud infrastructure utilizing KVM, Ceph, and SDN technologies for scalable, reliable cloud solutions for edge and core enterprise deployments. We seek engineering managers experienced in microservice architectures, Linux kernel, virtualization, storage, and networking, who can lead high-performance teams and contribute to complex distributed systems.

As an engineering manager at Canonical, you need a solid technical background and the ability to run effective teams, develop engineers, and influence company culture positively. Your responsibilities include leading, mentoring, and developing engineers, facilitating technical delivery, and collaborating on strategy and execution.

The ideal candidate will have experience leading successful engineering teams, solving distributed systems challenges, and deep Linux knowledge.

Location: This is a remote position available in EMEA and the Americas.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of remote engineers
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, and career development
  • Set and manage expectations with other teams, management, and stakeholders
  • Promote modern software development practices
  • Participate in code and architecture reviews
  • Engage with Canonical teams, open source community, and partners
  • Work remotely with occasional travel (4-6 weeks per year)
Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Linux cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes
  • Experience in developing and growing engineering teams
  • Focus on successful, high-quality software delivery
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or related field
  • Strong communication skills
  • Programming experience in C and/or Go
