Job summary

Apple Services Engineering Security seeks an Engineering Manager to lead a team of software engineers in the Identity space. You will design and execute a multi-year Identity strategy for services at Apple, building and operating micro-services that handle millions of API requests daily to vend identities for infrastructure and apps.

You will own roadmaps, drive OKRs, and communicate status to partners, leadership, and stakeholders while maintaining strong security and reliability standards.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience leading people or teams, mentor, or project lead.
• 7+ years of software development or production operations in large-scale env.
• Experience writing production code in Golang or Swift.
• Experience building and operating highly available, distributed, fault-tolerant systems.
• Solid understanding of OS concepts including multi-threading, memory, networking, storage, performance.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and containerization.
• Working knowledge of securing APIs, including authN/authZ for REST/gRPC.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and cross-team collaboration.
• BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Apple Services Engineering Security org is looking for a Engineering Manager to lead a team of software engineers in the Identity space. You will play a pivotal role in designing and leading a multi-year Identity strategy that will be the future for Identities for services at Apple.You and your team will design, build, and operate micro-services and capabilities that handle millions of API requests daily to vend identities for infrastructure and applications. You'll work with your teams to establish a long running execution plan for the org, taking ownership of important department-level and company-level OKRs, and regularly communicate status, roadmap and risks to critical partners, including top level leadership.

• Participate in hiring, interviewing, and onboarding of new team members
• Contribute to performance reviews and calibration, with guidance from your manager
• Plan and track team work: break down roadmap goals, prioritize, estimate, and remove blockers to keep delivery on track
• Partner with senior engineers on design and code reviews, ensuring solutions are scalable, reliable, and secure
• Support operational excellence for production services, including on-call health, incident response, and post-incident reviews
• Work with customer teams to drive adoption of minimum security requirements, and track and report progress
• Communicate status, risks, and trade-offs clearly to your manager, stakeholders, and partner teams
• Foster an inclusive, collaborative team culture with strong engineering practices
• Stay technical enough to understand team designs and trade-offs, with limited hands-on coding as the team requires

Minimum Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience leading people or teams, mentor, or project lead, with a strong interest in management as a career
• 7+ years of software development or production operations experience in a large-scale environment
• Experience writing production code in Golang or Swift
• Experience building and operating highly available, distributed, and fault-tolerant systems
• Solid understanding of operating systems concepts including multi-threading, memory management, networking and storage, performance and scale
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and containerization
• Working knowledge of securing APIs, including input validation, authentication, and authorization mechanisms for RESTful and gRPC APIs
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams
• BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience managing engineers, including hiring and performance feedback
• Knowledge of policy-based authorization mechanisms and engines, including Open Policy Agent/Rego or Zanzibar
• Knowledge of authentication mechanisms, including OAuth, JWT, and other identity management protocols
• Familiarity with incident response processes and the ability to respond to security incidents effectively
• Knowledge of cryptographic algorithms and protocols for securing data, including TLS/SSL, digital signatures, hashing, and encryption
• Hands-on experience with systems-level work, including configuring and troubleshooting system initialization processes
