Role Overview

eNGINE is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead a software delivery team supporting a modern, cloud-based platform within the healthcare technology space. This role is focused on building strong engineering teams, improving delivery, and helping engineers do their best work while remaining technically engaged with the platform.

The manager will lead approximately eight software engineers who operate as a shared Delivery Team across multiple products, working alongside a Lead who serves as the domain expert for specific products.

The ideal candidate has strong experience leading teams within event-driven microservices environments. Specific programming languages are less important than technical depth across modern distributed systems, cloud platforms, and software architecture.

This team is also actively embracing AI-assisted and agentic software development. Candidates who have built AI agents to support development workflows or have helped teams effectively adopt AI coding agents will be especially compelling.

This is an opportunity to join a growing engineering organization with potential to take on broader leadership responsibilities over time.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers while supporting the Leads responsible for day-to-day delivery.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, establish clear expectations, provide timely feedback, and support career development.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard engineers who strengthen the team's technical capabilities and culture.
  • Partner with Product on roadmaps, priorities, scope, and delivery planning.
  • Help teams balance new development, reliability, technical quality, and sustainable delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership during architecture discussions, system design, and code reviews.
  • Champion AI-assisted development and agentic coding across the team.
  • Help engineers improve the shared AI agents, skills, and tools they use in their daily development workflows.
  • Identify delivery risks early, help teams break down complex work, and provide support when projects get off track.
  • Build a culture centered around engineering excellence, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing.
  • Participate in production triage and on-call activities while helping maintain appropriate team coverage.
  • Remain hands-on with select projects, tooling, and engineering improvements outside of critical delivery work.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • 2+ years of experience as a Software Engineering Manager, Team Lead, Tech Lead, or similar engineering leadership role.
  • Proven ability to develop engineers and build healthy, high-performing teams.
  • Experience leading Agile software delivery and partnering with Product on roadmaps and planning.
  • Strong technical depth in modern web, cloud, and event-based microservices environments.
  • Ability to engage in architecture, system design, and code review discussions.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor or Claude Code.
  • Good judgment around where AI-assisted development can improve engineering productivity and where it may not be the right approach.
  • Strong communication skills with engineers, Product partners, and business leadership.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience improving a team's proficiency with AI coding agents or establishing effective practices for agentic development.
  • Demonstrated experience building AI agents to support software engineering or development workflows.
  • Healthcare technology experience, particularly specialty pharmacy, PBM, payer, or claims systems.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, HITRUST, or SOC 2 within a software environment.
  • Experience with Python, React, SQL Server, or Microsoft Azure.
