Job summary

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Software Engineering Intern to support the Missile Defense Sensors software group during the summer of 2027. You will contribute to requirements, design, development, and testing of real‑time applications and tools in a fast‑paced aerospace environment.

You will learn about Missile Defense Systems, large‑scale software development in agile settings, and CI/CD practices while collaborating with experienced engineers and contributing to critical defense programs.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in an applicable discipline and actively enrolled through the internship/co‑op session.
  • Minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship/co‑op session.
  • Experience developing software with C, C++, Java, or Ada.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and participate in requirements, design, development and testing of real‑time application software and tools.
  • Participate in internal reviews of software components and systems.
  • Work on problems with defined scope, schedule, and expectations.
  • Follow established development practices to maintain software configuration management.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance prior to the start date.

The Raytheon team is looking for a Software Engineering Intern to support the Missile Defense Sensors (MDS) Software (SW) Department in the summer of 2027.

What You Will Do as a Software Engineer
  • Assist and participate in the requirements, design, development and testing of real‑time application software and tools, to include development of new work products or enhancement of existing applications and systems.
  • Participate in internal reviews of software components and systems.
  • Work on problems with defined scope, schedule, and expectations.
  • Follow established development practices and processes to maintain the configuration management of software products.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance prior to the start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
What You Will Learn
  • The workings of Missile Defense Systems and/or Command and Control (C2) Systems.
  • How to develop and maintain large‑scale, complex software solutions in an agile environment.
  • Testing frameworks and best practices to enable high‑quality software deliveries utilizing Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery concepts.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in an applicable discipline and actively ++enrolled through completion of the internship / co‑op session.
  • Must have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co‑op session.
  • Experience developing software with C, C++, Java, or Ada.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins), configuration management tools (Git, Bitbucket, Artifactory), and data analysis tools (MATLAB, Python).
  • Knowledge of data structures and algorithms, memory management, and multithreaded applications.
  • Well‑developed communication, technical writing, oral presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience contributing to a team environment for the purpose of developing creative solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment with time‑critical requirements.
  • Ability to promote a culture of continuous learning, cross‑team collaboration and training.

  • The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
