Job summary

GlobalFoundries in Santa Clara, CA is seeking a Software Engineering Intern for the Cloud Platform to contribute to a next-generation Customer Engagement Portal. You’ll engage in full-stack development across UI, APIs, databases, and authentication, with emphasis on real-time collaboration, visualization, and workflow integration.

The internship provides one-on-one mentorship, growth-focused assignments, and opportunities to network with executives in a fast-paced semiconductor environment.

Qualifications

• Sophomore status at application time; pursuing a Master’s in Computer Engineering or related field.
• Must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be in good academic standing.
• English fluency (written & verbal) required.
• Ability to work at least 40 hours per week during the internship.

Responsibilities

Summary of Role:

The Software Engineering Intern, Cloud Platform will help build key functionality for GlobalFoundries’ next-generation Customer Engagement Portal. The role supports full-stack web application development across user interfaces, backend APIs, database design, authentication, real-time collaboration, visualization, simulation integration, performance dashboards, and internal-customer workflows.

Essential Responsibilities include:

• Develop frontend functionality and interactive design-visualization interfaces.
• Support backend API development and relevant frameworks in cloud and containerized environments.
• Use performance-monitoring tools and user feedback to analyze and optimize application performance and user experience.
• Participate in code reviews for frontend and backend contributions.
• Collaborate with hardware validation and design teams to improve the next silicon-validation platform and provide input on architectural decisions based on user needs.
• Maintain documentation and reference implementations used by internal customers.
• Support platform API releases and help customers integrate validation workflows for evaluation and development.

Other Responsibilities:

• Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.

Required Qualifications:

• Education – At least a sophomore at time of application and actively pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering or related field through an accredited degree program during the time of internship. Must have at least an overall 3.0 GPA and be in good academic standing.
• Language Fluency - English (Written & Verbal)
• Ability to work at least 40 hours per week during the internship.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior related internship or co-op experience
• Demonstrated prior leadership experience in the workplace, school projects, competitions, etc.
• Strong interest in leveraging AI tools and emerging technologies to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and support effective decision-making.
• Project management skills, i.e., the ability to innovate and execute on solutions that matter; the ability to navigate ambiguity.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong planning & organizational skills
• Experience with real-time applications, such as WebSockets, real-time collaboration, or streaming data.
• Experience with full-stack web development, cloud platforms, containerized environments, APIs, databases, authentication, or visualization tools.
