Job summary

Cagayan State University is offering an internship focused on AI model hosting, inference optimization, and orchestration. You will work on profiling, benchmarking, and deploying models to constrained devices while exploring quantization and distillation techniques.

You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI components into the platform, contribute to open-source projects, and gain mentorship from senior engineers.

Your Role

Here's what you will be doing:

• Work on model hosting and inference optimization, including profiling, benchmarking, and accelerating model execution on resource-constrained devices; experiment with quantization, distillation, and other techniques to reduce latency and memory footprint.
• Contribute to orchestration frameworks and agent workflows, building or extending systems that coordinate multiple models and agents using tools like LangGraph or LangChain; design robust, scalable orchestrations.
• Participate in model customization and fine-tuning by adapting pre-trained language models for specific use cases; conduct experiments and iterate on model configurations to improve performance.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with system software, design, and product teams to integrate your work into the broader platform; communicate progress and technical decisions clearly and seek mentorship.
• Contribute to open-source projects or internal libraries related to inference, orchestration, or model training; take ownership of end-to-end outcomes and platform improvements.

About You

The company is looking for candidates with:

• Current pursuit of a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience, with coursework or projects in machine learning, systems engineering, or software development.
• Strong technical communication skills to articulate project goals, outcomes, challenges, and decisions clearly.
• Familiarity with one or more areas: model inference and optimization, orchestration frameworks (LangGraph, LangChain), model fine-tuning and adaptation, or similar AI systems work, demonstrated through projects or contributions.
• Collaboration and ownership mindset, comfortable working in cross-functional teams, seeking clarity proactively, and taking responsibility for outcomes.
• Problem-solving skills including debugging, evaluating technical tradeoffs, and making reasonable decisions among multiple approaches.

Preferred skills include open-source contributions to inference engines or orchestration libraries, experience with Python and ML libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow, HuggingFace, FastAPI), familiarity with on-device or edge AI constraints and optimization, and system-level profiling and performance optimization.

Compensation & Benefits

• Hourly pay range: $45.00-$51.00 per hour, based on skills, qualifications, and experience.
