Job Responsibilities and Requirements
Recognized authority who provides enterprise-level technical and delivery direction for a complex portfolio of customer-facing digital capabilities, including web and mobile experiences, portals, digital onboarding, APIs, integrations, and related technology services. The role applies exceptional software engineering and digital delivery expertise to shape long-term roadmaps, evaluate major technical and investment choices, solve novel cross-platform problems, and guide architects, technical leads, internal contributors, and external partners through influence rather than formal people-management authority. Working closely with Product, business leaders, brokers, external partners, architecture, security, quality engineering, and operations, the role translates business and product direction into sustainable engineering and delivery approaches. The role remains capable of reviewing, validating, and troubleshooting the portfolio’s most critical solutions while influencing executive decisions, production health, vendor performance, responsible AI adoption, and long-term modernization direction.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the senior technical and delivery authority for the digital portfolio, shaping long-term engineering direction, modernization priorities, reference approaches, and target-state capabilities across customer-facing solutions.
- Translate business and product direction into technically sound delivery roadmaps, solution approaches, sequencing recommendations, and measurable engineering outcomes while partnering with Product on what capabilities should be built.
- Design, review, and validate the most complex or high-risk digital solutions, remaining sufficiently hands-on to challenge architecture, assess implementation approaches, and troubleshoot critical cross-platform and production problems.
- Solve novel technical and delivery problems for which established patterns or precedent are insufficient, and convert successful approaches into reusable guidance for architects, technical leads, internal teams, and external partners.
- Provide technical and delivery direction across architects, leads, matrixed contributors, and vendor teams through expertise and influence; clarify outcomes, resolve cross-team dependencies, and escalation material risks without assuming formal people-management accountability.
- Evaluate major platform, vendor, sourcing, investment, sequencing, scope, and risk alternatives and provide recommendations to senior and executive leaders based on technical sustainability, delivery feasibility, customer impact, cost, and business value.
- Shape digital engineering and delivery practices for secure development, architecture and design review, Agile delivery, coding and testing, automation, release readiness, documentation, deployment controls, observability, reliability, and operational support.
- Set direction for responsible use of AI-assisted engineering, testing, automation, and documentation practices, ensuring appropriate human oversight, security, privacy, quality, governance, and measurable value across internal and partner teams.
- Partner across Product, business analysis, enterprise and solution architecture, information security, quality engineering, infrastructure, cloud, data and operations to align technical approaches and remove barriers to delivery.
- Advise on partner and vendor strategy, statements of work, technical deliverables, service expectations, solution quality, and performance; identify gaps and recommend corrective actions to accountable leaders and contract owners.
- Define and interpret engineering, delivery, quality, operational, customer and financial measures-including release performance, cycle time, defect trends, service health, adoption, and return on investment-to identify risk and guide continuous improvement.
- Serve as a technical and delivery advisor to senior and executive stakeholders, communicating roadmaps, options, risks, investment implications, production concerns, and recommended decisions in clear business terms.
- Mentor architects, technical leads, and senior engineers; strengthen technical judgment, engineering practices, and delivery capability across teams without formal performance-management responsibility.
- Proactively identify and help resolve material technical, delivery, operational, vendor, security, regulatory, and compliance risks affecting the digital portfolio.
