Job summary

Battelle is seeking a Software Engineer Co‑Op for Spring/Summer 2027 in Columbus, OH. This full‑time, onsite role supports cyber analytics and advanced microsystems research, with a focus on C++, Python, and embedded software.

You will work in Agile teams, contribute to data processing and circuit design analysis, and gain exposure to hardware testing in a collaborative, innovative environment. Housing stipend provided for relocating students.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral program in a relevant field.
• At least one year of college coursework completed.
• Experience with Python, C/C++/Java or MATLAB.
• Interest in microcontrollers, IC design, RF or hardware testing.
• U.S. citizen with ability to obtain security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Developing and reviewing code within a large C++ codebase.
• Building and debugging software applications for data processing and circuit design analysis.
• Developing and testing Python code in support of fundamental research.
• Building and debugging embedded software in an RF lab using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and test fixtures.
• Working in a multi-disciplinary team using an Agile workflow.
• Communicating work status to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Software Engineer Co‑Op for the Spring and/or Summer 2027 semester. This position is a full‑time, 100% onsite opportunity located in Columbus, OH.

Key Qualifications

• Must be currently pursuing a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, or a related field
• At least one year of college‑level coursework completed
• Experience with one or more software languages such as Python, R, MATLAB, C, C++, C#, or Java
• Demonstrated interest in one or more of the following areas: microcontrollers, integrated circuit design, deep neural network approaches, radio frequencies, or hardware testing
• Applicants must be a Sole U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to apply learned skills to real‑world scenarios (e.g., research, publications, blogs, GitHub, arXiv, Kaggle competitions, internships, hackathons, cybersecurity clubs, or CTFs)
• Experience programming and using data acquisition tools
• Experience in one or more of the following areas: big data methods, databases (SQL, NoSQL, or graph DB), FPGA design workflows, microcontroller design and assembly languages, or semiconductor fabrication and analysis processes

Compensation Data

The salary range for this role is $20.00 – $40.00 per hour, in addition to a $2,000 housing stipend for students relocating more than 50 miles from home and university. Internship pay is benchmarked against national averages taking into consideration a student's major and year in school.
