Job summary

MBTA is seeking a Software Engineer contractor to deliver features end-to-end, refine requirements with Product Managers, and improve code quality across the stack in a hybrid role requiring in-office presence at least two days per week.

The position emphasizes secure coding practices, collaboration with UX/PMs, and participation in on-call rotations, with a focus on reliability and maintainability of software systems.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of relevant professional experience in software engineering.
• Experience delivering features end-to-end and translating business requirements into technology.
• Experience with monitoring, on-call, incident response, and reliability engineering.
• Strong debugging and investigative skills and experience with CI/CD.
• Ability to pass job-related technical assessments during selection.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and maintain well-architected features from design through implementation.
• Refine requirements with Product Managers and collaborate with UX and PMs.
• Protect data security, privacy, and compliance in all work activities.
• Contribute to on-call rotations and address incidents.
• Follow coding standards, reviews, documentation, and testing.
• Participate in team rituals and improve maintainability through refactoring.
