Software Engineer, Traction Control & Stability

Overview

The chassis controls software team is seeking engineers specializing in brake, steering, stability, and traction control to develop and calibrate advanced chassis control software. We welcome both experienced professionals and newcomers eager to learn, within a small team with significant responsibilities. As a chassis controls software engineer, you will oversee the entire software development lifecycle for features like Tesla’s in-house traction and vehicle stability control, from conception to deployment.

Responsibilities
  1. Develop and calibrate brake, steering, stability, and traction control software.
  2. Manage the full product lifecycle from idea through to shipping.
  3. Travel extensively to proving grounds worldwide for calibration and testing.
  4. Lead and organize test trips.
  5. Gain expertise across systems such as torque path, brake controls, and chassis systems.
  6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and develop features.
  7. Create and manage roadmaps for development milestones, regulatory approvals, and customer sign-offs.
  8. Develop test cases for in-vehicle and simulation environments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience demonstrating exceptional ability.
  • Proficiency in C and Python.
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics and automotive fundamentals.
  • Interest and experience in at-limit driving.
  • Experience calibrating chassis control systems.
  • Controls proficiency.
  • Familiarity with Hazard and Risk Assessment (HARA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Experience testing and validating safety-critical software.
  • Experience with CAN and Vector CAN tools.
