Job summary

Recruiting from Scratch is seeking a Software Engineer (Full-Stack) in San Francisco, CA to build scalable AI evaluation platforms using TypeScript, React, Next.js, and Node.js. You will work across research, product, and design to ship high-impact features.

The ideal candidate has 1–4 years of production web apps experience, strong fundamentals, and a bias toward ownership. Onsite (5 days/week) in SF with competitive base salary and equity.

Qualifications

• 1–4 years of experience as a Software Engineer or Full-Stack Engineer.
• Experience building production web applications using React, Next.js, and Node.js.
• Strong fundamentals in software engineering and scalable systems.
• Comfortable working across frontend, backend, infrastructure and cloud environments.
• Demonstrated ownership of projects from design through production.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable full-stack applications supporting AI evaluation and experimentation.
• Develop distributed systems, APIs, and human-in-the-loop platforms for frontier AI development.
• Build reliable backend services and modern frontend apps using TS/JS, React, Next.js, and Node.js.
• Develop infrastructure for large-scale distributed experiments using Kubernetes, Kafka, and cloud platforms.
• Collaborate with research, product, and design teams to prototype and launch new capabilities.
• Solve scalability, reliability, and performance issues across the platform.
• Participate in technical design, architecture reviews, and code reviews.
• Take ownership of projects from ideation through deployment and iteration.

What You Will Do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable full-stack applications supporting AI evaluation and experimentation
• Develop distributed systems, APIs, and human-in-the-loop platforms used for frontier AI development
• Build reliable backend services and modern frontend applications using TypeScript, React, Next.js, and Node.js
• Develop infrastructure for large-scale distributed experiments using Kubernetes, Kafka, and cloud platforms
• Collaborate closely with research, product, and design teams to rapidly prototype and launch new capabilities
• Solve challenging scalability, reliability, and performance problems across the platform
• Participate in technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and code reviews
• Take ownership of projects from ideation through deployment and ongoing iteration

Ideal Candidate Background

• 1--4 years of experience as a Software Engineer or Full-Stack Engineer
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript with experience building production applications
• Experience developing modern web applications using React, Next.js, Node.js, or similar technologies
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building scalable systems
• Comfortable working across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and cloud environments
• Demonstrated ownership of projects from design through production
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Preferred

• Experience with Python, Kubernetes, Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch, AWS, or GCP
• Startup experience or experience shipping products in fast-paced environments
• Interest in AI infrastructure, LLMs, distributed systems, or developer platforms
• Experience building internal tools, APIs, or data platforms
• Strong product mindset with a bias toward execution

Compensation and Benefits

• Competitive base salary of $180,000 -- $220,000
• On-target earnings of $350,000 -- $600,
