Job summary

Tyler Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer to join our State Compliance team in Troy, Michigan. You will develop and modernize .NET applications and data-processing services to support state-specific incident-based reporting and approvals.

You will collaborate across product, compliance, QA, and engineering to translate complex state specs into reliable software, build integrations, ensure regulatory compliance, and participate in design discussions and CI/CD practices.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of professional software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in C# and modern .NET application development.
• Experience designing and maintaining data-processing applications, background services, APIs, or system integrations.
• Experience working with relational databases and writing SQL for data analysis, application development, and troubleshooting.

• Proficiency with GitHub and experience using GitHub Actions or comparable CI/CD tooling.
• Experience applying secure development practices to application code, integrations, cloud resources, and sensitive data.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools for practical engineering work such as implementation, refactoring, testing, documentation, requirements analysis, or troubleshooting.
• Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated output rather than treating it as inherently correct.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, collaboration, and written communication skills.
• Must successfully pass a CJIS-compliant fingerprint-based background check.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product managers, compliance specialists, quality assurance engineers, and software engineers to deliver state reporting capabilities.
• Analyze state-provided technical specifications and translate them into software requirements, data mappings, validation rules, and test scenarios.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain applications and services using C# and modern .NET.
• Develop workflows that extract records management data, apply state-specific validation and transformation rules, and generate compliant IBR submissions.
• Build and maintain integrations that transmit reports using the formats, protocols, and submission methods required by each state.
• Diagnose data, validation, and submission failures across complex reporting workflows.
• Modernize existing .NET applications while preserving regulatory behavior, customer compatibility, security, and operational stability.
• Create comprehensive automated tests that verify reporting rules, data transformations, state-specific variations, and compatibility with supported product releases.
• Write maintainable code and contribute to automated build, test, and deployment pipelines.
• Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, estimation, planning, and architectural decisions.
• Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly to improve implementation, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and analysis of technical specifications.
• Help develop repeatable AI-enabled workflows that reduce the effort required to interpret specifications, identify changes, create requirements, develop test cases, and investigate data discrepancies.
• Validate AI-generated output for accuracy, security, maintainability, and compliance before incorporating it into engineering deliverables.
• Support production systems through effective logging, monitoring, diagnostics, incident response, and root-cause analysis.

Are you passionate about using your software development skills to produce critical data that law enforcement agencies use to meet state and federal reporting obligations and make well-informed decisions that affect public safety? Tyler Technologies is seeking a Software Engineer to join our State Compliance team, which develops and supports solutions used to produce and submit Incident-Based Reports (IBR).

Our software transforms data from Tyler’s public safety records management system into the structures and formats required by individual states and submits it using their required methods. This work requires translating complex and evolving reporting specifications into dependable software that validates agency data, identifies compliance issues, and produces accurate submissions.

In this role, you will develop and modernize .NET applications, data-processing services, and future cloud capabilities that support state-specific reporting workflows. You will join a collaborative team focused on technical excellence, regulatory accuracy, operational reliability, and the responsible use of AI-assisted engineering tools.

Experience building configurable rules, validation engines, or state-specific product variations.

Experience with Angular, TypeScript, Jest, or Playwright.

Experience incorporating large language models or AI services into development utilities, internal tools, or engineering workflows.

Familiarity with AI workflow concepts such as structured inputs and outputs, context management, evaluation, guardrails, and human review.
