Job summary

Lockheed Martin in Huntsville, AL, is seeking a seasoned Java software engineer to design and develop new Java applications and optimize legacy real-time Java systems. You will support testing, debugging, and documentation while collaborating with Systems Engineering and Test teams.

A DoD Final Secret clearance is required to qualify for this role. The position offers strong benefits and a mission-focused environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in software/computer engineering, computer science, or related field, or equal experience with 6+ years.
  • Active DoD Final Secret Security Clearance required.
  • Experience Java-based applications on UNIX/Linux.
  • Experience in a structured, team-based development process.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (Git/Gitlab, etc.).
  • Understanding system requirements, Use Cases, SysML diagrams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication; ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new Java applications; maintain existing Java applications.
  • Optimize existing legacy real-time Java applications.
  • Support software testing and resolve issues from multiple baselines.
  • Work from system specifications to develop or modify operating system applications.
  • Assist with design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging and documentation of programs.
  • Interface with other system support groups; generate design artifacts and support code reviews.

What We're Doing

Our Team, the Command and Control, Battle Management and Communications (C2BMC) Regional Applications team, is constantly engineering, developing and integrating new capabilities for the U.S. Missile Defense System, protecting both the United States and its allies. This large, fast paced team, is composed of many small agile teams working together dynamic environment with a common mission to develop and deploy leading-edge missile defense technologies.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college in software / computer engineering, computer science, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 6+ years of professional experience.
  • Must currently hold an ACTIVE DoD Final Secret Security Clearance to be considered for this position.
  • Demonstrated experience software development of Java-based applications in a UNIX/Linux platform environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing software in a structured, process-based integrated team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing configuration management tools in the development of software (e.g. Git/Gitlab/etc.).
  • Understanding of standard system engineering design artifacts such as System requirements, Use Cases, and SysML diagrams.
  • The successful candidate will have good verbal and written communication skills, have the ability to work independently, and be able to work in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Candidate will need to be able to work with multiple disciplinary teams including Systems Engineering, Integration and Test, Deployment and Warfighter Support to help ensure mission success.
  • Security+ or equivalent certification may be required within 60 days of starting for some roles.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $120600.00 - $224000.00

PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
