Job summary

Job description

Hybrid Work Environment – This role is based in our Alpharetta, GA office and follows a hybrid schedule, offering flexibility while maintaining in-office collaboration.

TaxConnex has produced a proprietary web-based software platform designed to facilitate the sales tax compliance process. The platform is utilized by remote accounting practitioners to manage client's sales tax activities. It also provides financial and operational management including workflow management, treasury/banking activities and contract management.

Software Engineers at TaxConnex continually develop new functionality in the platform as well as provide maintenance support. The Software Engineer responsibilities include gathering user requirements, defining system functionality, designing solutions across the application and its cloud infrastructure, and writing code. Ultimately, the role of the Software Engineer is to build high-quality, innovative, and fully performing software that complies with coding standards and technical design. Senior Software Engineers additionally set technical direction and raise the capability of the broader development team.

Essential Functions

Design and Planning

• Execute full software development life cycle (SDLC)
  
• Provide project management for software development initiatives
  
• Develop layouts and documentation for requirements and solutions
  
• Document features, technical specifications, and infrastructure requirements
  
• Work cross-functionally to convert business needs into technical specifications
  
• Design application and cloud architecture, including serverless and event-driven components in AWS
  

Development

• Perform a mix of enhancements and new development
  
• Write well-designed, testable code
  
• Review code and implement code controls
  
• Develop software verification plans and quality assurance procedures
  
• Create test plans and manage the testing process
  
• Develop backout contingency plans and implement as needed
  
• Build and maintain back-end services, APIs, and data processing in PHP and Python, including AWS Lambda functions
  
• Build and maintain front-end features in React
  
• Support internal systems at front-end and back-end, but primarily focused on back-end activities
  

Support

• Provide application maintenance and critical ticket support
  
• Senior developers will mentor and coach less experienced developers and lead code reviews
  
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across the application and its AWS infrastructure
  
• Solve immediate challenges while minimizing trade-offs to other parts of the system
  

Requirements

• Must currently reside in the state of Georgia within a reasonable commuting distance of our Alpharetta office
  
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience is required
  
• 2-10 years’ experience in web development and design (senior with 5+ years’ experience) is required
  
• History of managing and implementing software development following formal SDLC processes
  
• Proficiency in Python for data processing, integrations, and automation
  
• Hands-on experience with AWS, including Lambda, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, and IAM, and with serverless, event-driven design
  
• Expertise in PHP and the Laravel framework, including server-side application and API development
  
• Strong SQL and relational database skills with MySQL, including schema design, query tuning, and data integrity
  
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing is preferred
