Job summary

Botauto is building the next generation of autonomous trucking technology in Houston, TX. We are seeking an early-career Software Engineer to join our Simulation team and help develop simulation infrastructure and tools for AV software validation.

You will write clean C++ and Python, collaborate with Perception, Prediction, Planning, and Controls teams, and grow through code reviews, formal testing, and hands-on exploration of modern simulation platforms.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in CS/Robotics/EE.
  • Strong C++ (C++17) skills and algorithmic fundamentals.
  • Familiar with Linux development and OO design.
  • Multithreading, debugging, and software design principles.
  • Strong problem‑solving and communication abilities.
  • Passion for robotics, simulation or autonomous systems.

Responsibilities

About the Role

We are building the next generation of autonomous trucking technology to make freight transportation safer, more efficient, and more scalable.

Our Simulation team develops virtual testing environments, simulation infrastructure, and developer tools that accelerate autonomous driving development. We leverage large-scale simulation, synthetic data, and modern software engineering practices to improve testing efficiency and software quality.

We are looking for an early-career Software Engineer who is passionate about simulation, robotics, and autonomous driving. You will work alongside experienced engineers to build simulation infrastructure and tools that support the development and validation of autonomous vehicle software.

What You'll Do
Develop Simulation Software
  • Implement simulation features and infrastructure under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Build software components for simulation workflows and testing pipelines
  • Develop tools used by Perception, Prediction, Planning, and Controls teams
  • Contribute to improving simulation reliability, usability, and performance
  • Assist with debugging simulation issues and validating software behavior
Support Simulation Infrastructure
  • Contribute to scenario generation and simulation execution pipelines
  • Help improve automation for simulation testing and evaluation
  • Learn and work with modern simulation platforms and development tools
  • Participate in maintaining internal simulation services and tooling
Grow as an Engineer
  • Write clean, maintainable C++ and Python code
  • Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback
  • Learn software engineering best practices from experienced teammates
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams
  • Document software features and technical design
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong programming skills in C++ (C++17 preferred)
  • Experience with object-oriented programming and data structures
  • Familiarity with Linux development environment
  • Basic understanding of:
    • Multithreading
    • Software design principles
    • Debugging techniques
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Passion for robotics, simulation, or autonomous systems
Preferred
  • Internship or academic project experience involving:
    • Robotics
    • Autonomous driving
    • Simulation
    • Game engines
  • Experience with Python
  • Familiarity with ROS or ROS2
  • Experience with Docker or Git
  • Exposure to CARLA, Isaac Sim, Unreal Engine, Gazebo, or similar simulation platforms
  • Familiarity with cloud development environments
Nice to Have
  • Coursework or personal projects involving reinforcement learning
  • Experience using Linux and command-line tools
  • Exposure to computer graphics or physics simulation
  • Experience with sensor data processing
  • Interest in AI for robotics or autonomous driving
