Software Engineer, Security Infrastructure

**Cupertino, California, United States**

**Software and Services**

**Summary**

Posted: **May 14, 2025**

Weekly Hours: **40**

Role Number: **200604723**

Apple is where individual imaginations gather together, committing to the values that lead to great work. Every new product we build, service we create, or Apple Store experience we deliver is the result of us making each other’s ideas stronger. That happens because every one of us shares a belief that we can make something wonderful and share it with the world, changing lives for the better. It’s the diversity of our people and their thinking that inspires the innovation that runs through everything we do. When we bring everybody in, we can do the best work of our lives. Here, you’ll do more than join something — you’ll add something.

We’re on a mission to protect our users from malware. Help us build and maintain world-class compute infrastructure at massive scale and enable fast-paced security development. We are a cross functional team that powers key parts of Apple’s security, privacy, and app review infrastructure.

**Description**

As a member of our team you will build software systems that power our security prevention, detection, and response to malware. You will work on our large scale pipelines that process and analyze software for Apple. You will also create and improve various heuristics for detecting and blocking malware as well as improving efficiency of the teams we support. New security capabilities will be supported and we encourage you to bring your ideas to the table to help our mission. You will keep systems reliable, performant, and observable to keep operations lean.

Our team cares deeply about providing Apple’s customers with the highest standard in security and privacy on our products. We build large-scale systems that automate vulnerability discovery in Apple software and we build public-facing systems to collaborate with external security teams. This role is a Software Engineering/SRE role tasked with making these systems highly reliable while scaling to the needs of our customers’ 1B+ devices.

Here are examples of the kinds of projects you will be working on with us:

- Restructure a monolithic pipeline into a set of microservices
- Implement security analysis fuzzing infrastructure with 100k parallel nodes
- Building internal facing CRUD web app to collaborate with external teams
- Create automatic provisioning and deployment tools and provide CI/CD
- Analyze telemetry and optimize system performance of both microservice and monolith cloud applications
- Debug without boundaries and deep dive into the full stack and improving the ability to debug the code as you go
- Keep business-critical systems running with maximal automation and minimal human intervention
- Continually reduce operational load for the team by improving the observability and reliability of our systems

**Minimum Qualifications**

+ Bachelor's degree in computer science, or equivalent experience of 2 or more years building or rebuilding large scale data processing pipelines as a key contributor owning both operations and software development

+ Requirement for on-call rotation, which includes weekends

+ Excellent coding skills leading to performant and debuggable code that can be maintained by a large team, ideally in an imperative programming language used by SRE teams. Examples: Python (preferred), Ruby, Golang

+ Effective communication of complex technical concepts leading to shipping impactful projects

+ Have owned and deployed software supporting a critical function to cloud or bare metal systems where uptime matters

+ Enthusiasm for new technologies and growth

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Experience with Kubernetes and/or Amazon Web Services

+ Experienced with building cloud services and distributed systems that are performance sensitive and observable

+ Experienced in database utilization at scale

+ Front end experience doing light HTML, Javascript, and React for updating simple CRUD applications.

+ Strong Python experience.
