POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:

This position focuses on a groundbreaking area of research and development which combines robotics and 3D printing technologies with complex biological tissue assembly. The work centers on the BioAssemblyBot and the software platform that drives it, spanning high level orchestration down to the controls that run specific hardware. It primarily involves evolutionary development of prototypes into a production ready product. Our products allow scientists to work with and print out complex human tissue structures for their own research. Advanced Solutions and its customers are often positioned at the bleeding edge of technology where engineering works with renown scientists to accomplish feats that have never been previously attempted.

The ideal candidate for this position will need to be skilled in many aspects of development and comfortable owning a subsystem end to end. They must be highly motivated. They must be always learning and willing to expand their horizons and are able to recognize when a different solution might be more appropriate. They can adapt and pick up new and different technologies quickly. They will be expected to code primarily in C#/C++, to work fluently with agentic development tools, and to have a good handle on best development practices.

This is a hybrid role based in Louisville, Kentucky. The work requires regular hands on time with the BioAssemblyBot and the hardware it runs on.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop software according to functional and technical specifications.
  • Write clear, robust code on a consistent basis.
  • Own subsystems of the BioAssemblyBot platform from design through release, across both high level orchestration and hardware specific controls.
  • Support existing projects and contribute to team decisions as to the best platform for new projects.
  • Lead and contribute to the design process, including design reviews and technical direction for new work.
  • Apply agentic development tools to increase team output, and remain fully accountable for the code that results.
  • Work hand in hand with other software engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, doctors, and other technical experts daily.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Desire to implement new technology in a quickly changing environment.
  • Deep understanding of modern software development practices and design patterns, both in theory and practice.
  • Proficiency in C# and .NET, and the ability to work in C++ where the hardware calls for it.
  • Experience writing software that controls or integrates with physical hardware.
  • Fluency with agentic development workflows, including scoping and decomposing work for coding agents, giving them the context they need, and reviewing what they produce.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Can work independently when needed and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Motion control, kinematics, or robotic path planning.
  • Service backends running on embedded Linux hardware such as Raspberry Pi.
  • Device drivers, microcontrollers, or firmware.
  • Python for tooling, services, and data work.
  • Detailed knowledge of inheritance, composition, factory, singleton, adapter class patterns.
  • Client/server communication and multithreaded or asynchronous code.
  • Front end web technology (TypeScript, HTML, CSS) and UX development using React or other related frameworks.
  • Cloud based development in AWS and Azure.
  • Database development using SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and/or MySQL.
  • Containerization (Docker) and automated build and deployment pipelines.
  • Building or extending internal tooling that makes coding agents more effective on a large codebase.
  • Working knowledge of safety engineering standards, and industry practices.
  • Experience in a medical or biomedical environment.
  • Experience in developing 3D environments or graphics software.

Mastering all preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities is not required for the position; however, meeting several of the items on the bulleted list is a must. Individuals in this role who do not have such experience will have the opportunity to gain exposure and proficiency with indicated skills in this role.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent degree or experience.
  • Strong computer science foundation and general analytical skills.
  • A track record of delivering and supporting production software.
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:

Advanced Solutions will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditional upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screening.
