Forus seeks a Software Engineer, Platform & Infrastructure in New York to own the compute and data foundations the company runs on. You will manage the EKS platform, data layer (PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, BigQuery), and cloud spend, driving reliability, cost efficiency, and scalable architecture.

This high-autonomy role requires ownership, fast learning, and impactful work that accelerates growth while shaping the company’s technical direction.

Qualifications

• Experience operating production Kubernetes at scale with networking, autoscaling and reliability.
• Deep AWS expertise (EKS, VPC, IAM boundaries) and infrastructure-as-code with Terraform.
• Experience migrating relational stores under production load (Postgres preferred).
• Ability to simplify complex systems and reduce surface area.

Responsibilities

• Own compute platform including container orchestration, networking, autoscaling, service topology and ingress for reliability as we scale.
• Own data layer across Postgres, OpenSearch, and BigQuery; drive performance and cost efficiency.
• Lead cloud spend attribution and optimization across compute, data, and storage.
• Define and own platform reliability including SLOs, capacity planning, observability, and incident response.
• Build infrastructure-as-code and reusable primitives for safe provisioning by product teams.

About the role

As a Software Engineer, Platform & Infrastructure at Forus, you will own the compute and data foundations the entire company runs on.

You will own our EKS platform, our data layer, and the reliability and cost of everything running in our cloud. You will make the foundational architecture calls that compound for years: how we run compute, what our database platform should be, and how services talk to each other. You will also lead the migrations that reduce risk for the business as we scale.

This is a demanding role, with a high level of autonomy and responsibility. You will be expected to "act like an owner" and commit yourself to Forus' success. If you join, you will:

• Own our compute platform, including container orchestration, networking, autoscaling, service topology, and ingress, and define the architecture and patterns that keep it reliable and simple as we scale.
• Own our data layer, driving performance, scaling, and reliability across our databases (Postgres, OpenSearch, BigQuery), and lead the platform decisions that keep our datastores fast and cost-effective as load grows.
• Own cloud spend by building attribution and driving optimization across compute, data, and storage, so spend grows more slowly than the business does.
• Define and own platform reliability, including SLOs, capacity planning, infrastructure observability, and incident response for the systems every product team depends on.
• Build the infrastructure-as-code, service patterns, and self-serve primitives that let product teams provision and operate services safely without waiting on you.

We'll be most excited if you have:

• A track record of operating production Kubernetes at scale, including networking, autoscaling, and cluster reliability.
• Deep AWS expertise (EKS, VPC, IAM boundaries) and strong infrastructure-as-code with Terraform. You build platforms and reusable primitives rather than one-off resources.
• Run a real, low-downtime database migration and operated a relational store like Postgres under production load, with the ability to reason from a query plan to a capacity plan.
• Strong instincts for reducing complexity. You are drawn to consolidating and simplifying systems rather than adding surface area.
• Comfort operating in a regulated, high-stakes environment. Familiarity with PHI, HIPAA, or SOC 2 is a strong plus, as is a track record of mastering a high-stakes domain quickly.
• A track record of moving quickly, finding shortcuts, and going to unreasonable lengths to deliver on goals.
• High NPS with your former teammates.
