Software Engineer - Packaging - Optimize Ubuntu Server

Join Canonical as a Software Engineer - Packaging - Optimize Ubuntu Server and help shape the future of Ubuntu, the world's leading open source operating system in the cloud.

About the Role

Canonical's Ubuntu Engineering Server Team is seeking passionate open source enthusiasts to maintain and package software for Ubuntu Server. Your work will involve collaborating within a distributed team to improve user experience, evaluate contributions, and help evolve Ubuntu Server through packaging and development of server workloads, virtualization, containers, and related tools.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate proactively within a distributed team
  • Maintain and package software including web servers, databases, virtualization, and containerization stacks
  • Contribute to shaping Ubuntu’s future with new ideas and advice
  • Work with upstream projects and community teams
  • Debug issues in open source and team-maintained code
Minimum Qualifications
  • Passion for technology and open source
  • Bachelor's or higher in Computer Science, STEM, or related field
  • Basic understanding of reproducibility, testing, and containerization
  • Strong skills in C/C++, Python, Rust, or Go
  • Interest in distro packaging, package management, and virtualization
