Job summary

Cohere is seeking a proactive engineer to own and evolve the internal developer platform that powers our AI research and model training. You will ensure secure, scalable environments, automate container builds, and provide robust self-service tooling for researchers.

You will collaborate with researchers and ML engineers, contributing to CI/CD, IaC, and observability. This role offers remote-friendly options and offices in multiple cities; travel and on-call rotation are part of the package.

Qualifications

• Experience running a developer platform in production with CI, image builds, dev environments, or internal tooling.
• Ability to accelerate researchers/engineers without compromising platform stability.
• Proficiency with Linux and Kubernetes for production debugging; GPU cluster ops a plus.
• Proficiency with Python or Go and contributing to open-source projects.

• Run secure developer environments that stay controlled and accelerate developer velocity as the research org scales.
• Own container image build and CI/CD tooling.
• Instrument training code and build self-service tooling so researchers can see why a run failed and debug it themselves.
• Set infrastructure best practices through AI enablement, documentation, and office hours.
• Troubleshoot production failures and performance problems, and leave the system easier to operate than you found it.
• Build automation, infrastructure-as-code, and observability so the platform stays maintainable.

Why this team?

Internal Infrastructure builds the infrastructure and tools used to train, evaluate, and serve the company's foundation models. You will work with AI researchers and ML engineers on stability, scalability, and observability. The work accelerates the models behind the company's platform, North.

You will own the developer platform researchers use to write, build, and debug training code: dev environments, container images, CI, and training instrumentation. The role includes a compensated 24x7 on-call rotation.

• Made ML engineers or researchers faster without making the platform fragile.

• Enough Linux and Kubernetes to debug production systems. Experience operating a GPU cluster is a plus.

• Written software in Python or Go. You would rather extend a solid open-source project than rebuild it.

• Worked with researchers, ML engineers, or another team whose goals were not identical to yours.

• Found a bottleneck, proposed a fix, and driven it in a fast-moving environment.
