WOOD Federal Solutions in Annapolis Junction, MD, seeks a Software Engineer (Mid/Senior) to join a SAFe‑aligned Agile team delivering a large, mission‑critical enterprise system. You’ll shape designs, write clean, testable Java, and work across server‑side services and UI, with opportunities in cryptographic or secure frameworks.

You’ll collaborate with product, UX, and platform engineers to accelerate delivery in a fast‑moving environment.

Qualifications

• Must have demonstrated experience with Java and multiple Java frameworks (Spring/Boot/Data, JEE, JPA, EJB, JTA).
• Proficiency in languages such as JavaScript, Python, C/C++, Groovy, SQL.
• Experience with IDEs like Eclipse, VS Code, Visual Studio, WebStorm; Windows and Linux development.
• Experience with databases Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, SQL Server and web services.
• Knowledge of SAFe/Agile practices and secure software development is a plus.

Build software that powers mission‑critical outcomes. WOOD is hiring Software Engineers at all levels (with emphasis on mid‑senior) to join a SAFe‑aligned Agile team delivering a large, complex enterprise system that supports high‑impact mission needs. You’ll contribute across the full SDLC, shaping user stories, writing clean and testable code, automating quality with BDD and CI/CD, and integrating/deploying resilient features into modern environments. Opportunities span server‑side services and APIs, rich UI experiences, embedded and specialized device development, and cryptographic/secure frameworks. Deep, hands‑on Java experience is essential. You’ll collaborate with product, UX, and platform engineers to make smart trade‑offs, champion reuse, and integrate best‑in‑class tools to accelerate delivery. Security Clearance Requirements

This position requires all candidates to be U.S. Citizens and possess an active TS/SCI Security Clearance with a Polygraph.

Responsibilities

• Perform full‑lifecycle software development activities within an Agile team environment.
• Participate in daily scrums, sprint planning, PI planning, and Agile ceremonies.
• Analyze complex system requirements and create designs using industry‑standard tools and formal methodologies.
• Develop code that is efficient, maintainable, reliable, fault‑tolerant, and reusable.
• Promote cross‑team collaboration and reduce maintenance overhead through shared functions and reusable components.
• Develop, tune, and document automation scripts; deploy them into test and production environments.
• Implement robust test strategies following BDD principles and leverage DevOps automation and commercial test tools.
• Contribute to both server‑side logic and client‑side UI development depending on project needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• Must have demonstrated experience with Java.
• Must have experience or familiarity with multiple Java frameworks: Spring to include Boot and Data, Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) (i.e., JPA, EJB, JTA, Servlet), Jackson, Jersey, Swing, JavaFX.
• Must have experience or familiarity with multiple languages such as Javascript, Python, C/C++, Groovy, Structured Query Language (SQL).
• Must have experience with development IDEs (Integrated Development Environments) such as Eclipse, Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio, Rhapsody, WebStorm.
• Must have experience with databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, SQL Server.
• Must have experience with Web Application User Interface Development, knowledge of databases and structures, Spring Framework, and/or experience working with AngularJS, JSON, HTML, XML, XSLT.
• Must have experience with software source control and configuration management tools.
• Must have experience developing on Windows operating systems.
• Must have documented professional experience with web services.
• Must have a strong understanding of sound software development principles and practices.
• Must be able to plan and prioritize personal tasking and be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Must be an independent thinker, capable of performing high quality work, both independently and with a team in a fast‑moving environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with the following: Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) (i.e., EJB, JPA, JTA, JAX-B, JAX-RS, JAX-WS), SQL, application servers (Tomcat, WebLogic, JBoss), Spring framework, scripting.
• Experience or familiarity with multiple of the following technologies: XML/XSD/SOAP/WSDL/XSLT, REST, JSON, YAML, Containers (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
• Experience with Javascript frameworks: AngularJS, Bootstrap, JQuery.
• Experience with Testing and Mocking frameworks: JUnit, Jupiter, Mockito, Jasmine, Karma, Cucumber, Unified Functional Tester (UFT), Selenium, FITNesse.
• Experience with build tools: Maven, CMake, RPM, Jenkins, Nexus.
• Experience developing on Linux operating systems.
• Experience with technologies underlying cryptographic systems (symmetric and asymmetric cryptography, ASN.1 encoding, XML canonicalization, digital signatures).
• Experience with high level requirements management including requirements decomposition, secure systems engineering and development, trade‑off analysis, interface control, and testing and continuous integration.
• Experience in software development on Agile teams using Agile Developer practices such as Pair Programming, Test Driven Development (TDD), Refactoring, and Acceptance Test Driven Development (ATDD).
• Experience with Behavior Driven Development (BDD).
• Secure Software development (i.e., Layer 7 Policy).
• Experience with the Scrum, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodology, SAFe Agilest Certification, or experience as a member of an Agile team.
