Job summary

WOOD Federal Solutions is seeking a System Administrator (Mid or Senior) to manage a large, mission-critical network with distributed systems and air-gapped domains. You will work with Windows servers, Active Directory, virtualization, storage, and security tools to ensure secure, stable operations.

The role supports end-user and technical staff, coordinates patches and vulnerabilities, and collaborates with engineers and leadership on upgrades.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related field with 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Must have experience as a systems administrator providing direct support to end users and technical staff.
  • Proficient with Windows Server 2019 and Active Directory.
  • Experience with software/hardware deployment, patches, operating systems, and basic backup/restore functions.
  • Experience with SALT, Ansible, Splunk, Puppet, SolarWinds, Nessus.
  • Experience with Red Hat and VMware.
  • Solid understanding of advanced security protocols and standards.
  • Experience with Client and Server virtualization environments.
  • Experience with installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and reimaging hardware.
  • Strong information security principles and practices.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness for occasional travel.

Responsibilities

  • Install applications, administer systems and processes, and resolve issues promptly.
  • Ensure server and desktop configurations are optimized and running efficiently.
  • Perform security management and application performance optimization.
  • Administration/sustainment of a system providing a web-based application for storing, sharing, and distributing information.
  • Create and maintaining complex server enclaves, including analyzing system reports, patching, cert renewals, vulnerability management, and AD configurations.
  • Identify and correct hardware and software issues.
  • Respond to system administration, operations, and maintenance problems and develop re-work solutions.
  • Create and maintain documentation of complex server/network environments for incident resolution.
  • Communicate with users and external support regarding outages and upgrades; confer with management on resolutions.

Join WOOD Federal Solutions as a System Administrator supporting a large, complex, mission-critical network environment with geographically distributed systems and multiple isolated domains. This role is ideal for an experienced systems professional who enjoys solving difficult infrastructure problems, sustaining enterprise capabilities, and keeping critical systems secure, stable, and available.

You will support a dynamic technical environment that includes Windows servers, Active Directory, virtualization, storage, networking, security tools, and multiple air-gapped systems. The work includes building and maintaining server enclaves, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, supporting end users and technical teams, managing patches and vulnerabilities, and helping ensure systems continue to perform efficiently as operational requirements evolve.

This position offers the opportunity to work closely with engineers, developers, testers, users, and program leadership while supporting both day-to-day operations and longer-term system improvements. The ideal candidate is technically strong, adaptable, comfortable working across complex environments, and able to communicate clearly when resolving issues, planning upgrades, and supporting mission operations.

Security Clearance Requirements:

This position requires candidates to be U.S. Citizens and possess a TS/SCI Security Clearance with an appropriate Polygraph.

Responsibilities

The selected individual will be responsible for installing applications, administrating systems and processes, and ensuring issues are identified and resolved in a timely manner. She/he will be responsible for ensuring server and desktop configurations are optimized and running continuously and efficiently. The selected individual will also perform security management and application performance optimization functions.

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Administration/sustainment of a system that provides a web-based application for storing, sharing, and distributing information.
  • Creating and maintaining complex server enclaves, including analyzing system scanning reports, patching, cert renewals, vulnerability management assessments,and active directory configurations.
  • Identifying and correcting hardware and software issues.
  • Responding to system administration, operations, and maintenance problems, and developing re-work solutions.
  • Creating and maintaining documentation of complex server/network environments to ensure that clear, concise and accurate information is readily available for incident resolution.
  • Communicating with users and external support personnel regarding system outages and upgrades, and conferring with upper management regarding recommended resolution options.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or a related technical field and at least 8 years of relevant experience. Additional experience may be substituted for a degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with SQL Server.
  • SALT and Python scripting experience.
  • Experience supporting a software configuration management and development environment.
  • Experience working in an Agile Development Environment or on an Agile Team.
  • Knowledge of PKI systems which use HSMs to validate key and NTP for synchronization.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell and PowerCLI.
  • Experience in documenting and providing information for security accreditation and certification.
