Join the team that unlocks the power of Apple Maps. The Maps APIs team builds and maintains core services that enable users and partners to interact with Apple Maps, powering features like directions, search, and places used daily across Apple platforms.

As an engineer, you’ll design and deliver secure, privacy-focused APIs at a global scale. Our systems handle billions of requests with high reliability and performance, supporting some of Apple’s most critical services.

Description

We seek an experienced engineer to develop the next generation of Apple Maps APIs—focused on being intuitive, secure, and high-performing across online and offline experiences. You will work on low-latency, real-time systems supporting location features with strict uptime requirements.

This role involves maintaining existing systems and creating new capabilities. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, adherence to strong engineering practices, and ensuring user privacy are essential. While primarily backend-focused, familiarity with full-stack development is preferred. Candidates should have experience designing scalable, reliable APIs under heavy loads.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong team player contributing to an inclusive engineering culture.
  • BS or MS degree with at least 6 years of software engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in Java.
  • Experience with scripting languages like Python or Bash, including workflow automation and tooling.
  • Solid understanding of CS fundamentals (algorithms, data structures).
  • Effective collaboration across teams and clear communication skills.
  • Curiosity and ability to learn independently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing and managing APIs at scale.
  • Knowledge of large-scale storage and indexing systems.
  • Understanding of concurrency, parallelism, and multi-threaded systems.
  • Experience with stream processing, distributed databases, and full-stack development.
  • Real-world C++ experience is a plus.

Pay & Benefits

Base pay ranges from $175,800 to $312,200, depending on skills, experience, and location. Employees can participate in stock programs, receive comprehensive medical/dental coverage, retirement benefits, discounts, educational reimbursement, and potential bonuses. Learn more about Apple Benefits.
