Job summary

Google is seeking a Software Engineer Manager II, Infrastructure in the San Francisco Bay Area to lead a dedicated team responsible for large-scale distributed backend systems and APIs across multiple locations. You will set performance expectations, coach engineers, and shape the technical roadmap to meet evolving infrastructure needs.

You will guide architecture decisions, translate product goals into concrete plans, and write code where needed to ensure robustness and scalability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development.
• 3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
• 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.

Responsibilities

• Lead a dedicated development team responsible for the design, prototyping, implementation, and testing of the APIs and large-scale distributed backend systems that underpin the Node Platform.
• Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role and aligned to the broader organization’s goals. Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development, providing feedback and coaching.
• Develop the mid-term technical goal and roadmap within the scope of your (often multiple) team(s), evolving the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs.
• Design, guide, and vet system designs within the scope of the broader area, writing product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems.
