Job summary

Meta is seeking principal engineers to guide large-scale product initiatives that connect billions, spanning mobile and web platforms. You will oversee complex technical problems, craft new features, and improve existing products while leading world-class engineers and researchers across teams.

You will help set a multi-year roadmap, mentor senior leaders, and drive cross-organizational initiatives that deliver measurable impact and scalable performance across global systems.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of engineering leadership experience or 8+ years with a PhD.
• Experience influencing executive stakeholders across organizations.
• Experience using data/analysis to explain technical problems and provide solutions.
• Proven track record driving large cross-functional engineering efforts.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent practical experience.

Minimum Qualifications

1. 12+ years of programming experience in a relevant language OR 8+ years experience with a PhD

2. Experience mentoring/influencing executive stakeholders across organizations

3. Experience utilizing data and analysis to explain technical problems and provide detailed feedback and solutions

4. Experience driving large cross-functional/industry-wide engineering efforts

5. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience

6. Experience communicating and working across functions to drive solutions

7. Proven track record of planning multi-year roadmap in which short-term projects ladder to the long-term mission

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience in programming languages such as C, C++, or Java, and scripting languages such as Python, Javascript, or Hack

2. 8+ years relevant experience building large-scale infrastructure applications or similar experience

3. Experience improving quality through thoughtful code reviews, appropriate testing, proper rollout, monitoring, and proactive changes

4. Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)

5. Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)

6. Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies

$219,000/year to $301,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
