Job summary

Abbott is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software applications for Abbott Cancer Diagnostics. You will mentor junior team members and own software quality with minimal supervision in a cross-functional software engineering team.

This role can be based in Abbott offices in Madison, WI or Redwood City, CA, with opportunities to influence technical decisions, collaborate with stakeholders, and deliver robust, scalable solutions

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in a technical field (Data Science, CS, IS, Math, or Engineering).
• Strong experience in OO programming and software design.
• Experience with cloud-based services (Azure, AWS).
• Proficient in RESTful services and relational databases.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will lead the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software applications for Abbott Cancer Diagnostics. This role requires strong technical expertise, creativity, and problem-solving skills to create high-quality software solutions, troubleshoot complex issues, and ensure application reliability. You will make key technical decisions, communicate effectively with business stakeholders, mentor junior team members, and take ownership of software quality while working with minimal supervision.

As part of a cross-functional Software Engineering team, you will develop, enhance, and sustain software systems by following established design control processes and engineering best practices.

This position can be based in our Madison, WI or Redwood City, CA office location.

Troubleshoot issues and problems of medium complexity for major software applications; consistently influence and make significant decisions within a project, demonstrating good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions based in a solid understanding of business strategy and best practices with minimal instructions for difficult or unpredictable situations.

This includes mentoring, coaching, and technical guidance for junior members of the team.

Build successful internal and external partnerships with peers, SMEs, stakeholders, and decision-makers.

Communicate clear and concise project plans/designs and status updates for a project.

Ability to work nights and/or weekends, as needed.

Support and comply with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.

Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or Engineering.

Complete knowledge and full understanding of software development design and development, and relevant domain specific skills.

Understanding of and significant experience with object-oriented programming.

RESTful web services, Relational Databases (Postgres, SQL Server), and ORM technologies (JPA2, Hibernate, Entities Framework).

Demonstrated experience designing and developing apps that access and or utilize cloud-based frameworks (e.g., Azure, Amazon AWS Services/SDKs, etc.).
