Teams meet a few times a year in interesting locations worldwide to align on strategy and execution.

The role involves working on Linux-based infrastructure and applications across all layers of the stack, including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph, Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN, Core networking), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and open source applications. It offers an opportunity for a passionate Linux and open source enthusiast to build a career at Canonical, addressing critical issues that require upstream bug fixes and working productively across the stack, including kernel-level issues.

Location: This is a remote role with teams across all time zones.

Responsibilities include:
  • Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source software.
  • Collaborate closely with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams.
  • Participate in upstream communities.
  • Develop bug fixes, backport patches, and work with upstream for inclusion.
  • Review code from other engineers.
  • Exercise good judgment in technical methods and techniques.
  • Prioritize and manage work effectively.
  • Contribute to team discussions to improve processes, tools, and documentation.
  • Maintain clear and concise technical communication.
  • Work from home and travel internationally up to 10% for meetings, events, and conferences.
Qualifications:
  • Strong academic record.
  • Background in Computer Science, STEM, or similar.
  • Experience with Linux and open source software.
  • Proficiency in Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Willing to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.

  • Soft skills including passion, enterprise mindset, thoughtfulness, and self-motivation.
