NewsBreak is the leading platform for local news and information, and they are seeking a Junior Software Engineer to assist in the development of various products. The role involves collaborating with teams to enhance user experience and support machine learning systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist in architecting, designing, and implementing features for various NewsBreak products at a massive scale with data-driven iteration.
• Help define and implement content processing, management, and delivery processes for both user-generated content and platform-generated content.
• Improve recommendation user experience by optimizing distributed backend services' performance, focusing on scale and reliability.
• Collaborate with machine learning experts to build infrastructure supporting state-of-the-art machine learning systems, including ranking, NLP, and computer vision.

Skills

• Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of experience or Master's in Computer Science or related fields.
• Experience with software development processes including source control, bug tracking, and design documentation.
• Proficiency in Java/C++, object-oriented programming, and component-oriented architecture.
• Industry experience in recommendation, search, online advertising, or content management systems.
• Experience in building large-scale distributed backend systems.
