Initial training is required at our Columbia Falls, Montana, facility, beginning on the date of hire. Training duration will be determined by the NTC Program Manager. Additionally, this position will occasionally travel to Columbia Falls for additional training and strategic planning.

The Software Engineer IV is a full stack developer within the Nomad Total Command (NTC) team. NTC develops and supports the technology integrated into Nomad’s specialty vehicles and shelters. This technology provides detailed insight into each product and allows a user to remotely control its features and functions, as well as log all such activity. This position also includes the opportunity to create software applications that will be incorporated into NTC, but used internally at Nomad by other teams, including Project Management and Finance.
Responsibilities
- Be a substantive contributor to software development efforts by actively participating in software development meetings and providing strategic and technical recommendations.
- Work on complex projects independently.
- Design system architecture based on client requirements.
- Recommend solutions by analyzing in-house development options versus third-party alternatives.
- Develop frontend user interfaces and backend code for internet/intranet applications, determining design methodologies and toolsets, establishing comprehensive roadmaps, and creating multimedia applications using authoring tools.
- Delegate tasks as appropriate and address team questions.
- Manage priorities throughout the development lifecycle to ensure timely completion.
- Remove or escalate obstacles.
- Manage and review code from Software Engineers at levels I through III / third-party code.
- Design and conduct tests prior to delivery.
- Integrate applications by designing database architecture and server scripting, establishing connectivity with network systems, search engines, and information servers.
- Debug and troubleshoot development issues across platforms.
- Take ownership of projects and provide input to complete Sprints.
- Mentor, advise, and coach Software Engineers at levels I through III, including reviewing code and providing constructive feedback.
- Support end users by developing documentation and assistance tools.
- Stay current on internet/intranet technologies and software products.
Accountabilities
- Serve as a team lead by coaching and mentoring, providing constructive feedback, and contributing to the success of Software Engineers at levels I through III.
- Design system architecture including security, user authentication, authorization, command nodes, session management, SSL certificates, API integration, web sockets, messaging, versioning, data logging, dependencies, configurations, code translation, hosting, database management, and multi-threading.
- Demonstrate mastery in system architecture design, frontend and backend coding to complete projects of varying complexity.
- Submit efficient, clean code with minimal bugs.
- Complete tasks on time according to Sprint requirements with high quality.
- Collaborate effectively with other developers and escalate issues as needed.
- Participate actively in NTC meetings and communicate effectively.
- Maintain standard office hours and be responsive outside of those hours as needed.
Required Education / Experience
- MS in Computer Science and 5+ years’ experience in web programming, or
- BS in Computer Science or related field and 7+ years’ experience, or
- High school degree and 11+ years’ experience in web programming.
Employment Experience
- 4+ years’ experience as a team lead of at least 3 developers.
- 2+ years’ experience with web application architecture.
- Development of multiple successful end-to-end software applications.
- Expert understanding of HTML/CSS, frontend frameworks and libraries, coding 5+ user interfaces.
- Expert understanding of web application functions, security, session management, SSL, user authentication and authorization.
- Experience leading software development teams and completing projects successfully.
- Ability to code within existing, potentially inconsistent frameworks.
- Ability to follow instructions conveyed in meetings, verbally, email, or Teams.
Technical Skills
- Languages: Java, Typescript, NODEJS, JavaScript (Expert)
- Frameworks: Angular 2+ or React (Expert)
- Data Management: SQL, MQTT (Expert)
Preferred Additional Experience
- Languages: Kotlin, Ruby
- Frameworks: Vue, Express JS
- Data Management: MongoDB, QuestDB
- Security Principles: JSON web tokens, STIG
- Experience with USG coding projects, network diagnostics, and web architecture.
