Job summary

Byte Systems, a VTG subsidiary, seeks a Senior Software Engineer/Team Lead for our Herndon, VA office. You will lead a cross-functional Agile Scrum team focused on building and maintaining containerized systems and deployments in a Kubernetes/OpenShift environment.

This 100% on-site role requires hands-on leadership and technical excellence. You will architecture and design software, mentor engineers, and collaborate with security and operations teams to ensure reliable, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• 2+ years leading a team of 3-5 engineers developing an application that runs in a containerized environment.
• 2+ years of experience with software architecture/design
• 2+ years of experience with Java
• 2+ years of experience with Python
• 2+ years of experience with SQL
• 2+ years of experience with Shell Script
• 4+ years of experience with Unix/Linux
• 2 years of experience with JavaScript (preferred)
• Security+ or equivalent certification and willingness to serve as a privileged user supporting deployed systems testing
• Bachelor’s degree with 9 years of relevant experience OR a Master’s degree with 7 years of relevant experience; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree requirement

What will you do?

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience leading a team of 3-5 engineers developing an application that runs in a containerized environment, ideally Kubernetes/OpenShift based.


• 2+ years of experience with software architecture/design


• 2+ years of experience with Java


• 2+ years of experience with Python


• 2+ years of experience with SQL


• 2+ years of experience with Shell Script


• 4+ years of experience with Unix/Linux

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years of experience with JavaScript

• Familiarity with NiFi


• Experience with cross-domain systems

Pay Range:

VTG’s estimated starting pay range is $180,000-$230,000 annually, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
