Qualifications

• Pursuing Bachelor’s in CS/CE/SE or Master’s in related field for duration of internship.
• Interest in AI research, software development, or prompt engineering.
• Familiarity with React, MySQL, Node, .NET, C#, PHP and API integrations.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and test software features and system concepts that satisfy project requirements.
• Assist with API integrations across internal and third-party platforms.
• Maintain and deliver controlled software releases using version control and configuration management tools.
• Develop and execute test plans to verify software meets design and requirements specifications.
• Research and experiment with LLMs, open-weight models and emerging AI tools for integration into FifthColor’s software/workflows.
• Support prompt engineering, including designing, testing and refining prompts for AI features.
• Collaborate with the development team to debug, document and improve existing codebases.
• Stay current on AI research trends and share findings with the team.

FifthColor’s Software Engineer Internship Program gives students the opportunity to gain hands‑on experience across development, AI research and applied engineering while contributing to meaningful work that supports FifthColor’s growth. As a full-service, independent, omnichannel agency with all our experts under one roof, FifthColor is committed to developing early career talent and building a strong pipeline for future full‑time roles.

As a Software Engineer Intern, you will contribute to initiatives that help build, enhance and support the software products, platforms and AI driven capabilities that power FifthColor’s work. Working alongside experienced engineers and strategists, you will gain exposure to how technology, data and AI create value for clients, improve internal processes and drive innovation across the agency. Through meaningful project work mentorship and hands‑on collaboration, you will develop practical skills while helping shape FifthColor’s digital future.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and test software features and system concepts that satisfy project requirements.
• Assist with API integrations across internal and third‑party platforms.
• Maintain and deliver controlled software releases using appropriate version control and configuration management tools.
• Develop and execute test plans to verify software meets design and requirements specifications.
• Research and experiment with LLMs, open‑weight models and emerging AI tools to identify opportunities for implementation into FifthColor’s software and workflows.
• Support prompt engineering efforts, including designing, testing and refining prompts for AI driven features and tools.
• Collaborate with the development team to debug, document and improve existing codebases.
• Stay current on AI research trends and share relevant findings with the team.

Minimum Qualifications

• Junior or Senior working toward a Bachelor’s degree, or a student currently pursuing a Master’s degree, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a related field, for the duration of the internship.
• Interest in one or more of the following focus areas:
  • AI Researcher/Engineer – Interest in LLMs, open‑weight models, AI research and AI implementation into software.
  • Software Developer – Familiarity with any of our tech stacks (React, MySQL, Node, NET, C#, PHP) and API integrations. You don’t need experience in all of them – the more familiarity the better.
  • Prompt Engineer – Development‑focused majors interested in designing and optimizing prompts for AI systems.
