Job summary

Westmag, a U.S.-based drone motor and actuator manufacturer, offers an Internship/Co-op in software engineering in the San Francisco Bay Area. You will work closely with senior engineers on internal web apps and services that support aggressive manufacturing goals.

You’ll build full-stack features with TypeScript, React, and Node.js, connect to PostgreSQL, and help deploy on AWS with CI/CD pipelines. Collaboration with teams is essential for turning factory needs into real software.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related undergraduate or graduate program.
• Strong interest in robotics, drone technology, manufacturing or technology startups.
• Previous internship, personal projects or project-based student org experience (Formula SAE, Rocketry, Design Build Fly, hackathons, etc.).
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Good communication skills and willingness to learn.
• Authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the internship/co‑op period.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside the software team to build and maintain internal web applications and services that support Westmag’s engineering and manufacturing operations.
• Develop full-stack features using TypeScript, React, and Node.js, backed by PostgreSQL databases.
• Help containerize, deploy, and operate services on AWS, including improving CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code.
• Support integrations between factory equipment, test stations and software systems, including data collection and monitoring.
• Write automated tests, contribute to code reviews and technical documentation, and take on research tasks as assigned.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations and production teams to turn real factory needs into working software.

About the Internship & Co-op Program

Eligibility & Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related undergraduate or graduate program.

Technical Skills

• Strong TypeScript/JavaScript skills; comfortable with React and Node.js.

• Experience with SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred).

• Fluency with Git and the command line; Linux basics.

• Familiarity with Docker and container-based deployment.

• AWS fundamentals (ECS, RDS, IAM, CloudFront/ALB); Terraform a plus.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar).

• Networking basics: DNS, TLS/certificates, subnets, firewalls, and VPN.

Nice to Have

• Experience with MQTT or other industrial/IoT protocols.

• Experience writing automated tests (unit, integration, or end‑to‑end).
