Job description

Leidos is seeking a Software Engineer Intern pursuing a Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline. The intern will develop high‑quality applications using a modern technology stack in support of an emerging NMEC program. Work will begin remotely and will later transfer to an on‑site location in Bethesda, MD after the intern obtains and maintains a TS/SCI clearance.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain web applications using JavaScript and/or Python.
• Write, test, and debug new and existing applications.
• Execute thorough unit testing with automated tooling.
• Collaborate with end users, analysts, software and data engineers, and data scientists to ensure optimal performance and usability.
• Peer‑review code written by teammates.
• Utilize virtualization technologies such as Docker and Podman.

Basic Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a similar technical discipline.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language.
• Understanding of data structures such as arrays and common algorithms such as sorting.
• Basic debugging and testing skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to write well‑documented code.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance with a CI Polygraph.

Preferred Qualifications

• Genuine passion for coding.
• Experience writing unit tests.
• Experience building services in Python.
• Familiarity with NoSQL data stores such as Elasticsearch.
• Familiarity with SQL databases.
• Familiarity with performance optimization techniques.
• Up‑to‑date knowledge of emerging technologies.
