Job summary

Mindex is seeking a motivated Co-op Software Engineer for a January–August 2027 program in Rochester, NY. This on-site role requires at least three days per week, with five days preferred, and offers hands-on software development experience in an Agile team. Eligible students must be authorized to work in the U.S.

without visa sponsorship. You’ll learn modern tools and AI-assisted practices while contributing to real projects under senior engineers.

Qualifications

• Based in Rochester, NY and able to work on-site at least three days per week.
• Authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.; no visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• At least three years of education and/or prior co-op experience.
• Familiar with Java, Angular, Oracle, OpenShift, Python, and/or ASP.NET.
• Familiarity with test automation.
• Knowledge of object-oriented programming and RESTful web services.
• Knowledge of relational databases.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Self-starter mindset with ability to contribute working software and test automation scripts.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Scrum team to share status and contribute to plans, designs, specifications, source code, test scripts, and documentation.
• Build a foundational understanding of debugging concepts and the tools used to troubleshoot software issues.
• Grow your technical knowledge with mentorship from more senior engineers.
• Develop an awareness of overall service architecture and contribute to basic functions without duplicating code or causing interface changes.
• Understand and apply security in software design, development, and delivery.
• Use AI ethically, securely, and in compliance while protecting data.
• Curiosity about emerging AI capabilities and how to apply them effectively.
• Use AI to streamline workflows, reduce manual effort, and increase business value.
• Maintain ownership and accountability for final work products while using AI to support problem-solving.

Mindex is looking for a motivated Co-op Software Engineer to join our team and gain hands-on experience building, testing, and delivering software solutions in a collaborative Agile environment. This is a great opportunity for a student or early-career candidate who is excited to grow technical skills, learn from experienced engineers, and contribute to meaningful projects that have real business impact.

In this role, you’ll work alongside Scrum team members and stakeholders, build a stronger understanding of software development best practices, and gain exposure to modern tools and technologies — including the responsible use of AI to improve efficiency, quality, and innovation.

The salary for this job is $22/hour.
