Job summary

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information. Our team handles information at massive scale beyond web search and seeks engineers who bring ideas from information retrieval, distributed computing, and large-scale system design.

As a software engineer on the Search team, you will work on projects critical to Google's needs with opportunities to switch teams as the business grows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience with software development in C++ and Java.
• Experience in information retrieval, search infrastructure, ranking, data quality, or signal extraction for content evaluation.
• Experience with large-scale data analysis, building data pipelines (e.g., Flume), and applying statistical methods to solve problems.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable software systems and backend infrastructure designed to operate on top of Large Language Models for information retrieval.
• Design, implement, and continuously iterate on systems to retrieve high-value, rights-protected content. This includes defining quality signals, extracting data, and building evaluation models.
• Partner closely with engineers, product managers, and research teams across Google to seamlessly integrate premium knowledge into high-visibility Generative AI surfaces.
• Grow in a changing, rapidly growing environment, taking the initiative to establish clear technical directions and deliver results from the ground up for a new organizational effort.
• Uphold standards for code quality, system reliability, engineering best practices, and comprehensive technical documentation across the team.
