Job summary

Black Eagle Defense is seeking a Software Engineer III to advance AI-assisted IDE tooling and developer productivity. You will build integrated tooling, experiment with autonomous agents, and refine workflows across development platforms.

You will collaborate with customers and teammates to gather feedback, measure tooling impact, and document improvements. Strong experience in modern languages and IDEs is required.

Qualifications

  • Twelve (12) years' experience as a SWE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Four (4) years of additional SWE experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
  • Strong software engineering skills in one or more modern programming languages.
  • Experience with IDEs, developer tools, or build and test systems.
  • Hands-on experience with AI- or LLM-powered developer tools, including chat-based interfaces or automated coding agents.
  • Ability to prototype, evaluate, and refine experimental tooling.
  • Solid understanding of software development workflows and best practices.

DUTIES

As a successful candidate for the Software Engineer III role, you will focus on improving the productivity and experience of software developers by building and integrating advanced development tooling. You will develop AI-assisted IDE capabilities, implement automated code quality workflows, and experiment with agentic and autonomous systems that support software development tasks.
