This is your chance to dive into the dynamic and rapidly expanding e-commerce industry, shaping the future of online business. This full-time position offers the flexibility of being fully remote within the United States.

About The IAM Team & Your Role

As a key member of our Identity and Access Management Team, you’ll be at the heart of our platform’s security. You’ll design, build, and enhance the critical services that manage authentication and authorization for everyone who interacts with Commerce – our merchants, our partners, and our internal systems.

You’ll primarily work with Ruby, with opportunities to engage with Go, Scala, PHP, and React + TypeScript. Our architecture leverages REST APIs and gRPC, microservices, and is supported by a sophisticated suite of internal deployment and cloud infrastructure tools. In this highly collaborative environment, you’ll not only expand your technical skill set but also see your innovative ideas through from initial concept to impactful delivery. We believe in building the right solutions for our customers.

Work Where You Thrive

We embrace a flexible work culture. This role is open to remote work across the US. For those in the Austin, TX area, we offer a hybrid model with two days in our office, fostering both focused work and in-person collaboration.

What You’ll Do

  • Contribute to Technical Initiatives & Solve Engaging Challenges: You’ll actively contribute to technical tasks and feature development, such as improving system performance and query efficiency, with a focus on security and best practices.
  • Support Our Architecture & System Evolution: You’ll work with operations, infrastructure, and senior engineering teams to help evolve our systems, contributing to the design and scalability of our back-end services and understanding the technical direction of key product components.
  • Engage in Technical Excellence & Understand Strategy: You’ll actively participate in technical discussions, helping to explore and understand solutions, architectural approaches, and technical strategies that align with product and business goals.
  • Foster a Culture of Quality: You’ll uphold and contribute to software quality and security practices. This includes participating in thoughtful code reviews, asking questions, testing, and sharing your knowledge to help elevate team standards and our codebase.
  • Collaborate and Grow: You’ll work closely with fellow engineers, offering support and sharing knowledge to enhance collective team skills and project success.

Who You Are

  • Education: Preferred Minimum Bachelor’s degree in CS, EE, SW, CE, MIS; or equivalent experience or completed either a comprehensive software engineering boot camp.
  • Solid Experience & Autonomy: You bring 2+ years of software development experience, and while you’re growing in your ability to work independently, you’ll receive guidance and support as you develop full autonomy.
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience and growing proficiency in Ruby are key to this role. We’re also excited if you have familiarity with, or an interest in exploring, TypeScript/React, Scala or Go.
  • Development Lifecycle Understanding: You’re familiar with continuous integration principles and have experience contributing to various aspects of the development cycle, from initial design through to implementation and ongoing support.
  • Scalable Systems Knowledge: You have a foundational understanding of, or a strong interest in developing, high-performance, scalable, and resilient web services and applications. We value your eagerness to learn and grow in this area.
  • A Collaborative Spirit: You are a true team player, comfortable working within an Agile/Scrum environment and with diverse stakeholders, team leads, and other groups to foster clear communication and achieve shared goals.
