We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Software Engineer II on our Health Solutions team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 3 days a week in the office.


As a Software Engineer you will develop and implement intelligent software solutions that enhance AMA's CPT Suite of products using modern software engineering and AI-enabled technologies. Design, build, and integrate scalable applications leveraging large language models, AI frameworks, APIs, LLM orchestration, and vector databases to support reliable and innovative product capabilities. Follow established enterprise review and approval processes for technologies and related standards, collaborating with IT, OGC, and Risk Management to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security, and data and AI strategy.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

AI Application Development 40%


  • Develop AI-powered applications using LLM orchestration frameworks such as LangChain.

  • Implement agent-based workflows, reasoning pipelines, and tool integrations.

  • Develop and optimize prompts to optimize model outputs and reliability.

  • Build retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines using vector databases.

  • Evaluate and prototype emerging AI development tools, frameworks, and technologies to support the improvement of software development practices.


Software Development 40%


  • Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable software applications and services.

  • Design data pipelines integrating Vector DB, Relational DB and/or Graph DB.

  • Develop APIs, backend services, and integrations to support product functionality.

  • Troubleshoot, debug, optimize, and maintain software solutions.

  • Participate in code reviews and follow established software engineering best practices.


Continuous Improvement & Technical Innovation 20%


  • Stay current with evolving technologies and incorporate applicable practices into day-to-day development.

  • Prototype and assess new development approaches to enhance engineering efficiency and product quality.

  • Experiment with prompt patterns, chain-of-thought techniques, and tool use methods.

  • Contribute to the development of reusable software components and services.


REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualifications (select background required for the role):


  1. Education (select from dropdown): Bachelor's degree required.

  2. 2 Years of experience (populates based on Job Framework level): 3+ years of experience in software engineering, application development, or a related technical field.

  3. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related field required.

This role is an exempt position, and the salary range for this position is $99,161 - $129,442. This is the lowest to highest salary we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's pay within the salary range will be determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to business consideration and geographical location, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
