About The Team

The Developer Tooling team is oriented around empowering & supporting engineers throughout the software development lifecycle. The team identifies opportunities to drive impactful improvements across the entire development lifecycle—from a developer's initial approach to a problem through the iterative development process, release workflows, and production observability. The Developer Tooling team ensures engineers at Scribd can build, deploy, and operate systems efficiently by providing robust tools and frameworks.

About The Role

As a Software Engineer II specializing on our Web Platform within the Developer Tooling team, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the developer experience at Scribd. You will focus on building, maintaining, and improving tools and frameworks that streamline frontend development workflows. This includes modernizing tooling, optimizing build processes, and enhancing development capabilities. You will collaborate with other engineers to identify bottlenecks and implement solutions that increase efficiency and productivity. Your work will directly impact the speed and reliability of our frontend tooling, empowering the entire engineering team to deliver high-quality features faster.

In this role you will

  • Design, develop, and maintain frontend build systems and tooling
  • Optimize build processes for performance, reliability, and developer experience
  • Create and maintain internal libraries, components, and utilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and solve developer experience pain points
  • Stay current with emerging frontend technologies and best practices

Key Attributes

  • 4+ years of professional experience in frontend development
  • Strong proficiency with JavaScript/TypeScript and React
  • Familiarity with build tools like Webpack, Vite, Rollup, or esbuild
  • Experience with package managers (npm, yarn, pnpm)
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automation
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Curiosity-driven individual with a growth mindset

Experience We Value

At Scribd, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package and is determined within a range. Our pay ranges are based on the local cost of labor benchmarks for each specific role, level, and geographic location. San Francisco is our highest geographic market in the United States. In the state of California, the reasonably expected salary range is between $119,000 to $185,500. In the United States outside California, the range is $98,000 to $176,500. In Canada, the range is $124,500 CAD to $165,000 CAD.

We consider various factors when determining compensation, including experience, skills, education, and organizational needs. This position is also eligible for equity and benefits.
