Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a Software Engineer II (Applications) to build mission systems software for uncrewed aircraft. You will design, implement, and test onboard Linux software powering vision-based navigation and autonomy, working with a small team on live flight systems.

You will own features end to end, collaborate with others, and tackle challenging problems in a fast-paced environment, with mentorship from senior engineers and opportunities to grow in robotics and autonomy domains.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• 2–5 years software development experience or strong internship/research background.
• Proficiency in C++ (C++11/17), Python, or C with OO design.
• Comfortable developing on Linux and writing tests.
• Experience with git and modern development tooling.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• Willingness to travel locally (Occasionally).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and test onboard Linux software powering vision-based navigation and autonomy.
• Integrate sensors and robotics systems onto real aircraft.
• Own features end to end from design to automated testing and deployment.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute ideas.
• Translate requirements and algorithms into well-tested code.
• Collaborate with other software developers to reuse and improve software.
• Learn quickly in a mentorship-driven environment.
• Handle problems of moderate scope with good judgment.
