Job summary

Columbia Bank is hiring a software engineer to provide technical leadership in producing high-quality, secure, custom software for internal and external users. You will establish coding guidelines, design technical solutions, and write well-documented, testable code with unit tests and peer reviews.

You will work with QA and external engineers to deliver on-time outcomes, refine requirements, and resolve deployment issues while improving development processes and governance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent field preferred.
  • 4-7 years of software industry experience required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft technology stack (Visual Studio, .NET, GitHub or other source control).
  • Extensive knowledge of HTML5, CSS, JQuery and JavaScript.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership in production of high-quality, secure software for internal and external end users.
  • Develop high-quality, secure solutions for new features and modifications of existing features.
  • Create design documentation, flowcharts, sequence diagrams, and code comments to capture technical details.
  • Collaborate with QA and 3rd-party engineers to drive high-quality on-time deliverables and assist in QA with reviews.
  • Refine requirements and user stories by partnering with customers or representatives.
  • Help resolve deployment/production issues and improve software supportability and SDLC adherence.
  • Contribute to operational and engineering excellence and cross-functional process improvements.
  • Coach, mentor, or train others and align with Columbia corporate culture.

Job description

About the Role:

Provide technical leadership in the production of high-quality, secure, custom software for internal and external end users. Help with the establishment of coding guidelines and technical designs including write well-designed, testable code that adheres to coding guidelines and technical design. Create documentation (i.e. specifications, flowcharts, etc.) to capture technical application details. Build quality into the application by providing unit tests for existing and new code and by participating in peer code reviews. Collaborate with UX teams to design solutions that provide an outstanding user experience.

  • Develop high-quality, secure solutions for new features as well as modifications of existing features in existing custom applications.
  • Analyze existing issues and provide solutions to remediate; use issue resolution as an opportunity to improve supportability of the custom software.
  • Responsible for documenting and demonstrating solutions by developing design documentation (i.e. analysis, flowcharts, sequence diagrams, etc.), code comments and clear code.
  • Partner with Columbia QA and 3rd-party engineers to drive high-quality, on-time deliverables, assist in the QA effort by providing reviews of QA documentations and/or test cases, and participating in the testing effort, when necessary.
  • Partner with internal and external customer or representative to understand problem statement, desired outcomes and requirements; contribute to the refinement of requirements and/or User Stories.
  • Assist in promptly resolving deployment and/or production issues; use issue resolution as an opportunity to improve supportability of the custom software.
  • Responsible for contributing to operational and engineering excellence and continuous process improvement initiatives; partner with cross-functional teams to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the software development process, deployment and support
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and development standards and guidelines.
  • Demonstrates compliance with all bank regulations for assigned job function and applies to designated job responsibilities — knowledge may be gained through coursework and on-the-job training. Keeps up to date on regulation changes.
  • Follows all Bank policies and procedures, compliance regulations, and completes all required annual or job-specific training.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Bank’s written policies and procedures regarding Bank Secrecy Act, Regulation CC, Regulation E, Bank Security and other regulations as applicable to this job description.
  • May be asked to coach, mentor, or train others and teach coursework as subject matter expert.

About You:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent field preferred.
  • 4-7 years of software industry experience required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft technology stack, including Visual Studio, .NET, and GitHub (or other source control);
  • Extensive knowledge of HTML5, CSS, JQuery and JavaScript.
  • Experience with UI frameworks and technologies (Bootstrap, AngularJS, or Blazor preferred).
  • Experience with SOA, API, and Web services.
  • Extensive using testing frameworks (i.e. Nunit, Xunit, Junit, etc.), standard build tools and version control systems.
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming best practices, Object-Oriented Analysis, Object-Oriented Design, design patterns, and software development methodologies; experience in Agile development practices utilizing Scrum, Kanban and/or Scrumban.
  • Ability to work independently as well as lead collaborative working sessions with internal teams. Strong interpersonal skill needed to work with cross-functional teams.

The pay range for this role is $80,000.00 to $110,000.00.

The pay rate for the selected candidate is dependent upon a variety of non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, education, and geographic location. The role may be eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, and those details will be provided during the recruitment process.
