Job summary

Best Egg is seeking a Software Engineer to design, implement, test, and support features powering its consumer financial platform. You will collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams to deliver robust software and continuously improve systems and tooling.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of professional development experience in Java and/or Python, strong knowledge of databases, and practical CI/CD experience.

• Strong understanding of relational/NoSQL schemas and query patterns.
• Experience delivering production-quality features in modern languages.

Role Overview

Software Engineers play a foundational role in building the software that powers Best Egg's products and platforms. These engineers design, implement, test, and support features in collaboration with cross-functional Agile teams while continuously improving systems, tooling, and engineering practices.

What You Will Do

• Develop and deliver software iteratively and incrementally under guidance.
• Implement small features and bug fixes with coaching from senior engineers.
• Write unit tests and follow established testing utilities and patterns.
• Ask for clarification early, communicate progress, and elevate blockers quickly.
• Perform unit, integration, and regression testing and strengthen test coverage.
• Interpret, refine, and challenge business requirements; document technical decisions.
• Support deployments, troubleshoot production issues, and contribute to operational readiness.

In the first 90 days

• Demonstrates steady growth in delivering small, well-defined tasks.
• Builds strong relationships with peers and actively participates in Agile rituals.
• Learns core system components and follows team conventions with consistency.
• Takes ownership of features from refinement through deployment.
• Improves test coverage or reduces bugs in a system area.
• Demonstrates autonomy in solving medium-complexity technical problems.

In 6-12 months

• Delivers features with increasing independence.
• Shows proficiency in debugging and improving system areas.
• Demonstrates foundational architectural understanding and good engineering hygiene.
• Consistently delivers high-quality features with minimal oversight.
• Mentors junior engineers and helps shape team norms.
• Contributes meaningful improvements to code quality, performance, or tooling.

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, IT, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of professional development experience with Java and or Python.
• Intermediate experience delivering production-quality features in modern languages.
• Solid understanding of relational/NoSQL schema design and query patterns.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and deployment workflows.
• Ability to produce technical documentation and participate in design discussions.

$80,000 - $100,000 a year
