Job Description

Summary
We are seeking a remote Software Engineer II with experience in the research, design, and development of computer and network software or specialized utility programs. The Software Engineer II will analyze user needs, develop software solutions, update software or enhance existing software capabilities. The Software Engineer II will be part of a mission-critical team advancing technology for our federal client’s next generation of environmental data.

  1. Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine the feasibility of design within time and cost constraints
  2. Create, manage, and deploy containers to ensure efficient, consistent, and scalable application operations across various environments
  3. Confer with systems analysts, engineers, programmers, and others to design systems and obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces
  4. Design, develop, and modify software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and consequences of design
  5. Determine system performance standards
  6. Develop or direct software system testing or validation procedures, programming, or documentation
  7. Monitor functioning of equipment to ensure the system operates in conformance with specifications
  8. Responsible for configuration management of requirements, code, and software configurations, advise users on the CM policies and procedures
  9. Develop and maintain CM processes, plans, policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and other documents

Basic Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field or equivalent work experience
  2. 6-8 years of Software Engineer experience
  3. Proven experience in the development and implementation of software applications
  4. Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices
  5. Experience with OpenShift for containerization and Kubernetes
  6. Strong scripting language skills required
  7. Experience with SCM concepts and methodologies
  8. In-depth knowledge of branching, merging, and baselining strategies
  9. Ability to work well with others, collaborate, and communicate effectively

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience with containerization technologies
  2. Experience developing software configuration standards for organizational use
  3. Experience building software written in C/C++ or Fortran, preferably in a Linux environment
  4. Bash, Perl, or Python preferred
  5. Extensive experience using GitLab
  6. Artifactory experience desired

Work authorization/security clearance requirements
Ability to obtain a government security clearance

Physical Demands

  1. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  2. Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organizations and client facilities

This base salary range represents a general guideline. An individual’s base salary within that range is determined based on a variety of factors, including (without limitation) the scope, complexities, and responsibilities of the position, the government contract to which the position is assigned, geographic location, market conditions, and the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and skills.
