Job summary

Cox Automotive in Austin, TX is seeking a Software Engineer II to join a team delivering backend and frontend solutions in C# and Stencil on AWS. You will own features from design through testing and production, build APIs and services, and contribute to reliable, highly available systems.

This hybrid role requires in-office presence two days a week; you’ll collaborate with product, UX, and solution delivery, participate in on-call rotations, and apply spec-driven development with AI-assisted

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; alternative combinations allowed.
  • Strong OO design and development skills.
  • Strong C#/.NET skills, including experience building APIs/services.
  • Understanding of RESTful design patterns.
  • Familiarity with modern web frameworks (Stencil/Angular/React).
  • Experience across the SDLC from development to production support.
  • Ability to write readable, maintainable code following best practices.
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud environments.
  • Strong communication across engineering, product, and UX teams.

Compensation includes a base salary in the range of $98,300.00 - $147,500.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

Job Description

As a Software Engineer II, you will work with a team of engineers to deliver solutions that support how dealers acquire and exit inventory. The team builds applications using C# and Stencil, running on AWS, combining backend services with modern web interfaces to deliver reliable and highly available systems. The role focuses on contributing to the design, development, testing, and deployment of software, with ownership of individual features and components.

You will collaborate closely with engineering, product management, UX, and solution delivery teams to deliver incremental value while maintaining system stability. This includes supporting production systems and participating in on-call rotations, building strong fundamentals in incident response and continuous improvement.

Strong engineering practices are expected, including testing-first development and effective use of AI-assisted development tools. The team follows a spec-driven development approach, where clear, well-defined specifications guide implementation and AI-generated code. This includes working from structured requirements, validating outputs against those specifications, and contributing to software that is reliable, maintainable, and aligned with intended behavior.

This is a hybrid role based in Austin, TX with an in-office requirement.

What You'll Do
  • Design and implement APIs, services, and cloud-based solutions within an existing architecture.

  • Work closely with the Agile team to build, deploy, monitor, and manage highly available production systems.

Who You Are
  • 2+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, and 2 years’ experience in arelated field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as amaster’s degree and up to 2 years’ experience; or 14 years’ experience in a related field.
  • Strong object-oriented design and development skills.
  • Strong C#/.NET skills, including:
  • Experience building APIs and services
  • Understanding of RESTful design patterns
  • Familiarity with modern web frameworks (e.g., Stencil, Angular, or React)
  • Experience contributing to applications across the SDLC, from development through production support.
  • Ability to write readable, maintainable, and efficient code following established best practices.
  • Familiarity with building and operating applications in a cloud environment such as AWS.
  • Experience working from defined requirements or specifications to implement and validate software behavior.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts and collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and UX teams.

  • Austin, TX based Candidates Only - In Office 2 days a week required.
Preferred
  • Experience building and delivering software in cloud-based systems (e.g., AWS).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated build and deployment processes.
  • Understanding of Agile development methodologies and team-based delivery.
  • Experience with automated testing practices (unit, integration, or end-to-end).
  • Exposure to AI-assisted development tools and modern software development workflows.
