San Diego Blood Bank is seeking a Software Engineer I to join its mission-driven team in San Diego, CA. You will develop and maintain browser-based business applications, spanning UI, APIs, and data access, while benefiting from mentorship and guided growth.

The role emphasizes learning to leverage AI-assisted development tools, delivering high-quality code, and collaborating with a small, dedicated team to support community health initiatives.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 1-3 years of software development experience or a strong portfolio of projects.
• Familiarity with Git-based version control.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain features across the full application stack, including UI, APIs, business logic, and database components, under the Lead Software Engineer.
• Translate wireframes, mockups, and requirements into responsive, accessible browser interfaces.
• Develop and maintain database schemas, queries, and data access code following established architecture.
• Implement data validation, error handling, and security controls within features.
• Build and maintain integrations with internal systems and third-party services.
• Write clean, well-documented code following team standards and version control workflows.
• Write and maintain automated tests for features.
• Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and planning sessions.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve defects; test fixes.
