Job summary

MidAmerican Energy Company is seeking a Software Engineer I to participate in design, development, testing, and deployment of applications. This role involves evaluating software, recommending solutions, and planning adoption of key technologies.

The work spans client/server and web contexts with emphasis on security and reliability. You will work with Oracle and Microsoft SQL databases, and with .NET, BizTalk Server, and SharePoint tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in MIS, CS, or related field or equivalent work experience.
• Basic knowledge of client/server and/or web development environments.
• Basic knowledge of integration and application security models; and proficiency with various development tools.
• Experience in an environment with comparable scope and complexity.
• Know-how of deployment topologies and secure, highly available systems.
• Strong communication and analytical/problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, code, test, document, implement and maintain application programs.
• Enhance existing systems; participate in client walkthroughs and design reviews.
• Provide customer support for package software and interfaces.
• Perform development with emphasis on performance, security, and interoperability.
• Collaborate with IT teams to identify deficiencies and improvement opportunities.
• Stay current with industry standards and apply to development processes.
• Assist in research to modify applications; coordinate with vendors as needed.
• Perform basic system analysis and contribute to project planning.
• Handle multiple tasks and projects; participate in on-call when needed.
• Additional responsibilities as assigned.
